The Call of Duty esports rumor mill is churning hot and heavy this week as the transition to the Black Ops 6 Call of Duty League season is underway.
Not only players but teams and their slots seem to be ready to shuffle up big time moving into this upcoming CDL season, and it’s all a very fluid situation with hush-hush conversations happening seemingly every hour.
One rumor, being reported by noted CoD leaker Hope, suggests some big-name, popular esports organizations could be returning to CoD esports this season, with Fnatic and Gen.G reportedly looking to replace the Carolina Royal Ravens and Los Angeles Guerrillas in the 12-team league.
Fnatic last fielded a team in CoD way back in 2017 in the Call of Duty World League, while Gen.G had a roster featuring several future stars back in 2019, before announcing it would not be participating in the first year of the CDL.
This news comes on the heels of another report two days ago that Falcons will be replacing the Vegas Legion’s team slot in the league, meaning there are potentially several team slots up for grabs along with all of the free agent players.
But there’s even more. Hope’s sources “also indicate that Boston Breach will be running it back despite poor results and unstable financial backing.” A report earlier this month indicated that Breach’s ownership team, Oxygen Esports, would be laying off its entire staff.
The big change to the league comes after a mass layoff of the esports division at Activision Blizzard early this year, which led to the CDL reportedly using contract workers as opposed to full-time employees for the league’s broadcasts for most of the year.
With CoD Next taking place next Wednesday, Aug. 28, and the BO6 beta beginning just two days later, expect to hear and see a lot of movement within the league in the coming weeks.
