New Warzone map looks like it includes an all-time multiplayer favorite as a POI

Here's where you'll be dropping in very soon.

A new Call of Duty release also means it’s time for a new experience and update for Warzone, and Activision has confirmed that this year will include a new map for the battle royale game.

CoD’s UK Twitter/X account revealed the new map is called Area 99, and it looks and sounds as though it’s been designed by Treyarch. The image posted by Activision says Call of Duty Next will include a “new map premiere with Treyarch,” but that’s not the only hint.

The teaser image with what is presumably the new map in the background includes what looks like features from an all-time CoD classic, Nuketown. The truck in the middle of the picture looks like it was taken directly from the map that originally premiered in 2010’s Black Ops 1 and has been iterated on several times since.

At CoD Next, we’ll definitely learn more about the new map along with Black Ops 6’s integration into Warzone, which likely won’t take place until season one sometime in December if the past few years are anything to go by.

Previous leaks have claimed the new map will be for the Resurgence game mode, suggesting it will be on a smaller scale. Other leakers have said the return of Verdansk will be BO6’s “big map” for Warzone, and that it may not be released until early 2025.

New Warzone info and gameplay are just a fraction of what’s coming at CoD Next, the yearly livestream showcasing what’s to come for the long-running franchise. Activision will also show BO6 multiplayer gameplay, reveal the new Zombies map Liberty Falls, and talk about what’s coming in CoD Mobile and Warzone Mobile in the year ahead.

Call of Duty Next streams live from Washington, D.C. next week on Aug. 28 starting at 11am CT.
